Countdown to the Spurs 2015/16 Season… 4 Days

I’m continuing with my preview of the new Spurs season with a numerical twist by counting down the days from 5 to 1 giving my thoughts on each number, each day.

5 Days

4 Days

My four is for the number of Man of the Match displays for Erik Lamela in the Premier League last season, according to WhoScored.com. The players bought with the proceeds of the Gareth Bale money have received a lot of criticism over the last few years and, to be fair, rightly so. But only Kane (5) and Eriksen (5) received more Man of the Match awards than Lamela last season and I saw enough glimpses of competence, if not brilliance, in his performances to give me hope for the future. If we don’t sell him first.

At still only 23 Erik Lamela is still learning his trade and finding his feet at Spurs. His statistics make for encouraging reading though.

As you can see he was statistically one of the better performers offensively and although defensively it doesn’t look like much he actually ranked 1st for Tackling and Interceptions when compared to all other attacking players in those front four positions.

So I’m very much hoping that Lamela stays at Spurs and pushes on to earn more than last season’s 4 Man of the Match awards.

What do you think Spurs fans? Do you think Lamela will ever be the Spurs player we want him to be?
