Everton Vs West Ham – Player ratings

Everton faced West Ham at Goodison Park in what looked an intriguing FA Cup 3rd round tie. West ham being one of the surprise packages this season whilst Everton have had a shocking start to season and with only one win in nine, the toffees are struggling. West ham took the lead early in the second half through a header from James Collins, but then in the 92nd minute Romelu Lukaku popped up with an equalizer for Everton, which they hope to be a catalyst to start their season, and both teams will head to Upton Park for the replay.

Joel Robles: 6.5 – After a shaky start Everton’s second choice keeper grew into the game making a few decent saves including a vital save with the score at 1-0. He couldn’t really do much about the goal but will be disgusted with the defending from the corner.

Seamus Coleman: 6 – A rather quiet game from Coleman, often surged forward but nothing of significance to note, defended well against Jarvis down the left hand side but struggled at times on the 2 on 1 situations.

Sylvain Distin: 3 – An absolute joke of a performance from Distin, truly shocking distribution from him and woeful defending. Lost his man Collins for the hammers goal and like many times this season cost us a goal. The only bright point was that he picked up a groin injury, which will hopefully see the end of Distin in the royal blue shirt.

Phil Jagielka: 5 – Another nervous performance from Jagielka, dealt with defending well but when distribution is needed he fails to show any intent of class. Jags in my opinion plays much better when youngster John Stones is alongside him as Stones is a more natural footballer and can play it out from the back much better.

Bryan Oviedo: 7 – Oviedo had an average game, got into some dangerous areas at times but failed to produce anything from it, until the 92nd minute where he provided Lukaku with the pivotal pass to set up the equalizer for Everton.

Mo Besic: 8 – What a joy this man is to watch! The 22 year old is an absolute terrific tackler of the ball and loves getting stuck in and that is exactly what he done in the middle for Everton today, for a young lad he is very experienced and hopefully will push ageing Gareth Barry out the side when James McCarthy returns.

Gareth Barry: 5 – Slow and old. Gareth Barry can no longer cut it at the top level for a sustained period of games and needs to be utilised as a squad player, his constant dithering on the ball is being punished by quick high pressing players and has cost Everton too many times this season.

Kevin Mirallas: 6 – Showed glimpses of magic but tended to hunt the glory too much and does not play for the team. A rather unforgettable evening for Kevin.

Ross Barkley: 6 – A rather frustrating performance from Barkley, again showed glimpses of his wonderful ability but normally spends too much time on the ball, but being played on the wing is ruining him as a player, as soon as Martinez notifies this the better.

Steven Naismith: 5 – Naismith again, like most of the season a lot of huff and puff but no real technical class in the final third, playing two “number 10s” also does not work as Steven and Ross are both battling for the space and only one can fit in. Naismith has to be dropped.

Romelu Lukaku: 8.5 – Truly magnificent from Lukaku, his general play was a joy to watch. His first touch was for the first time this season brilliant and showed why we paid 28million for the Belgian striker. Got into some good positions and got the goal he deserved late on with a brilliant flying volley into the bottom corner to send the Gwladys Street End mad.

Aiden Mcgeady: 7 – Provided width in the short time he was on played a big part in the goal teeing up Oviedo for the cross.

Samuel Eto’o: 4 – Thinks he is better than he is and his lack of celebration at the end frustrated me as a fan. Attitude needs improving.

John Stones: 7 – Provided better distribution from the back and I feel helped us to get the goal we deserved, hopefully he can stay injury free and really show his full potential.
