January 1st: Time for Klopp to take out the garbage

Now that January is only a few days away, it is finally time to start ridding ourselves of what Rodgers has left us. The new manager spell has worn off and the usual fringe players are back to showing their true colors. Many will argue that January is no time for an overhaul and I disagree to the highest extent. This season is essentially an extended preseason for Klopp and needs to be treated as such. He needs to be given this time to assess the squad, make changes and he has 2 huge windows before the 16/17 season to do so. We have suffered due to Rodgers’ horrendous spending and it’s time to rectify that.

FSG have assured that Klopp will have “plenty of funds to spend in January” according to Barrett and it’s estimated he’ll have roughly £20m to play with. With the list of players Liverpool could live without, he could be looking at a £100m warchest if he carries out a massive fire sale. It will be highly unlikely that he’ll be able to carry out such a fire-sale until the summer but it is still worth mentioning that Liverpool are sitting on a hefty load of deadwood players that are still worth decent money. I think the sooner we have a fire sale and the sooner we buy the players we need, the more time Klopp will have to work with them and get them acclimated to the league and his football.

The likes of Lovren and Lallana have played well recently under Klopp but by no means warrant their outrageous wages as they are backup players at best, so keeping them around would be silly. Toure, Skrtel, Lucas, Milner, Markovic, Balotelli and Allen are also sitting on outrageous wages and have certainly proved their not Liverpool quality. Many Markovic fans will go to bat for him with literally zero evidence to back their opinions of him. He is a lost cause in my honest opinion and “potential” is not something we need to continue to rely upon. We need proven players that can step into the team and generate wins. Says it all when Benfica fans were surprised we expect so much from Markovic and paid such an outrageous price. Benteke has proved me right as thus far being another outrageous waste of money and further proving that we don’t play big man football. Carroll, Lambert, and Balotelli didn’t work out for us and never will unless we make drastic changes to the football we play. Selling Big Ben if the right price comes in would be great as long as it doesn’t come from Chelsea, who would be the perfect fit for Benteke and his style of play. Selling players shouldn’t benefit our rivals and I think selling Benteke to Chelsea would do just that.
