Liverpool Loan Watch: Kent, Wilson and Canos Make Debuts

Ryan Kent, Harry Wilson and Sergi Canos all made their debuts for their loan sides at the weekend. Danny Ward and Ryan McLaughlin helped make history for their sides whilst Sheyi Ojo impressed again. There were disappointing afternoons for Lawrence Vigouroux, Jordan Williams, Lloyd Jones and Joe Maguire. Allan and Samed Yesil both made debuts for their sides this week, but Tiago Ilori and Taiwo Awoniyi weren’t in the squad for their loan sides’ respective matches.
Ward was part of an Aberdeen side who made their best league start in history as they beat SPL Champions Celtic 2-1 to maintain their 100% start to the season. Although he conceded just his second goal of the season, the Wales goalkeeper made a crucial save when the score was at 1-1 as the Dons moved to the top of the league. Fellow Liverpool loanee McLaughlin was an unused substitute for Derek McInnes’ side.

Ojo came on as an 61st minute substitute for Wolves in their 2-1 defeat at Bolton. After replacing Jed Wallace, the England U19 winger created three chances for his team-mates including two in a minute, but they couldn’t find an equaliser. He also had a chance in the 90th minute, but his shot went wide. Staying in the Championship, and Canos made his debut for new side Brentford as they drew 1-1 at Leeds. The Spain youth international came on as an 85th minute substitute, replacing Philipp Hofmann.

In League One, and Vigouroux and Williams both played the full 90 minutes as Swindon suffered a 4-1 defeat at Barnlsey. The Robins were without the injured Kevin Stewart, and Williams created just one chance for the visitors.

Wilson made his Crewe Alexandra debut as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Millwall to stay bottom of League One. The Wales U21 international came on for David Fox in the 67th minute, and created two chances in the final five minutes. He will hoping this cameo can lead to a full debut for the club. Elsewhere, Jones returned to the Blackpool starting line-up, but there was the same result as they lost 2-1 at leaders Gillingham as his side drop to 23rd in League One.
Finally, Kent made his debut for Coventry City days after signing for them. The England U20 international came on as a 54th minute substitute in their 1-0 defeat to Scunthorpe. He, like Wilson, created two chances but failed to find the target. Another player who is still looking for his league debut is Leyton Orient’s Maguire, who was an unused substitute in their 1-1 draw at Cambridge United.

In Europe, and Yesil made his debut for FC Luzern as they drew 3-3 with Grasshoppers. The Turkish forward, who scored four goals for Liverpool U21s before his departure, came on for Marco Schneuwly in the 75th minute but couldn’t make an impact. Also, Allan Rodrigues de Sousa built on his debut goal for SJK with a start in their 0-0 draw against FC Lahti. The Brazilian was booked in the 40th minute, and was replaced by Akseli Pelvas in the 61st minute.
