Brendan Rodgers – Can he still deliver?

Brendan Rodgers will keep his position as manager of Liverpool Football Club for the upcoming season. Though it has been a matter of controversy, Rodgers has secured his place at the club. The upcoming season will be Rodgers’ fourth consecutive season with the club.

His time has consisted highs and lows thus far, but its not over. Looking back at Brendan Rodgers’ previous seasons with Liverpool, what a journey it has been.
Following Kenny Dalglish, Brendan Rodgers, appointed June 1, 2012, took over as Liverpool Football Club manager.

During Rodgers’ first season in charge, his winning average was 42 percent. A disappointing statistic due to the fact he had previously reached a winning average of 44 percent at Swansea City, his former club. The season’s highlights include reaching the Europa League’s round of thirty-two, the League Cup’s fourth round, and the FA Cup’s fourth round.

The club attained no silverware. Under the new manager’s first season, Liverpool finished seventh in the league, after finishing eight in the preceding season. Though the club moved up a place in the table, in comparison to the 2011-12 season, Liverpool under-performed.

No Liverpool supporter will ever be able to forget the 2013-14 season. Extraordinary, exhilarating, uplifting: Liverpool’s season was one for the books. The Red’s were inches away from clenching the Premier League trophy. Unfortunately, Liverpool did not experience a “happily ever after” ending, but nevertheless the season was a success. After five long years, Liverpool, still under the management of Brendan Rodgers, brought back Champions League football.

Rodgers’ winning average skyrocketed to sixty eight percent, twenty-six percent better than the pervious season. The club averaged eighty-four points in the Premier League naming them second place. Each game of the season was a joy to watch. Liverpool reached the fifth round of the FA Cup, and the third round of the League Cup, but the greatest accomplishment was the return of the Champions League. Brendan Rodgers was celebrated, and admired for his wonderful tactics that propelled Liverpool to excel.

This last season marked Brendan Rodgers’ third season with Liverpool Football Club. A roller coaster ride of emotions, it was definitely an eventful run for the Reds. After qualifying for the Champions League in the 2013-14 season, Liverpool could not manage to overcome the group stage.

Once out of the Champions League, the Europa League was next. Another disappointing attempt, the Reds failed to reach beyond the knockout round. It was under large circumstances like the Champions League and Europa League matches that Rodgers was criticized for his team selections.

In addition, Rodgers became infamous for playing players out of position, a crucial component of the season’s failures. The Liverpool manager’s winning average dropped to 49 percent, a familiar ground for Rodgers. Failing to secure top four, the Champions League will not return to Anfield in the upcoming season. However, Liverpool will take part in the Europa League after placing sixth on the table. A disappointing season for all involved with Liverpool Football Club.

A lot is expected from Brendan Rodgers this upcoming season. Will the Northern Irishmen deliver?
