On July 1, 2015 Danny Ings became an official Liverpool player. Though a set fee has yet to be decided, it is rumored to be between five to ten million pounds. Papers, however, are reporting that the fee will most likely be around eight million pounds. Ings is Liverpool’s second signing of the summer, following James Milner from Manchester City. It is definitely an exciting transfer for Liverpool and Danny Ings.
Twenty-three year old, Ings expressed his desire to join the Reds after declining a twelve million pound offer from Tottenham. After an incredible season with Burnley, clubs were bound to be interested. The young striker managed to score eight goals in thirty-five appearances, outscoring all Liverpool strikers. Ings reached a forty-three percent shot accuracy, and in average won forty-five percent of duels. In addition, during his entire time at Burney, Ings scored forty-three times in one hundred-thirty appearances. The twenty-three year old has a lot of potential. Former Liverpool Captain, Steven Gerrard, revealed his excitement over the Ings transfer in a recent interview for LFCTV, stating “the Ings one I’m really excited about because he can be what he wants to be – I know the talent’s there, he’s very young, he’s fresh.” Ings will surely thrive under Brendan Rodgers. This transfer could soon prove advantageous for both parties.
Internationally, Danny Ings has become an important player for the England U21 squad. Danny Ings received his first call up on October of 2013, by England U21 manager, Gareth Southgate. A week later, he made his debut as a substitute in a 4-0 win over San Marino. In Ings’ second cap, he managed to score twice in another win over San Marino. As he continues to play to England, Ings will carry on developing and blossoming into a top player.
In preparation for the upcoming season, it came time for the new red to claim a squad number. Though historic numbers such as eight and nine were available, Ings declared number twenty-eight as his own. Ings, aware of the significance of the numbers, did not want to add pressure to himself during his first season at Anfield. Instead, he wishes to establish himself before using a number with such importance. At loss of words over his transfer, Ings will soon attempt to prove himself. Ings recently expressed his feelings upon transferring by stating, “It is a challenge that I am really looking forward to. I will work even harder to try and get into that team and be the best professional I can be.”
The emotional new Liverpool member is desperate to prove himself to supporters and will therefore train with great determination during pre-season. Though pre-season training officially began on July 6, 2015, Danny Ings will not commence training until July 8, 2015. Nevertheless, in hopes to establish himself as a worthy Liverpool player, Ings cut his holiday short to join fellow teammates in preparation for the pre-season tour to Asia and Australia.
Danny Ings, welcome to Liverpool!
