Ex Liverpool assistant Pako Ayestarán is set to join Liverpool according to the Sunday People, who was Rafa Benitez’s number two. Ayestarán has worked under Rafa Benitez for a long time, since 15 years ago, at CD Tenerife. He was part of the daily training regime at Melwood (Liverpool’s training ground), and organising the physical work. He won the Champions League with Liverpool, and was with Benitez at Valenica where they won two La Liga titles.
Paco took over Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C. last year as head coach, and led the team to the first ever Treble in Israeli football winning the Championship, State Cup, and the Toto Cup. A very impressive achievement.
As John Richardson from the Express reports, there could be more casulaties after Mike Marsh and Colin Pascoe got axed this week. Pascoe who arrived with Rodgers from Swansea still had another year remaining on his contract, while Marsh just didn’t get his contract renewed. They report that Head of performance and analysis, Michael Edward, head of recruitment, Dave Fallows and Chief Scout Barry Hunter could also be leaving the club.
I can see FSG getting rid of the ‘yes’ men, and getting people who could challenge Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. Pako is the perfect man for this. Now, one interview I really enjoyed was with him 8 years ago here.
