Max: You’ve been included in the tour with the senior side, how do you feel about that and were you expecting that?
Ojo: “No, I was just hoping that I could be part of the squad and getting an oppurtunity to impressive. So I’m really happy to be involved.”
Max: You’ve trained with the first team before, how does it feel to train with them?
Ojo: “It’s a great feeling when you’re training with great players, and being part of the first team and every training session you improve as a player.”
Max: How do you feel last season went for you?
Ojo: “I thought it was a good season for me, I started of the season with the U21s and then from November onwards I was more with the first team. I went on loan [To Wigan] which went well, I thought it was a great season overall.”
Max: You went to Wigan for a couple of months, how useful did you find it?
Ojo: “I thought it was very useful and just being around the first team on a daily basis, being in the changing room really helped me a lot as a player. It’s a lot more physical comparing to U21s football. For a player like me who likes to dribble a lot, I got fouled a lot and it helped me get ready to the next stage to play for Liverpool.”
Max: For people who don’t know much about you, what kind of player are you?
Ojo: “I like to get the ball down, try and create chances, score goals of course, dribble with it. Trying to get on the ball as much as possible and try and make something happen.”
Max: What are your aims for next season?
Ojo: “The main aim is to get that debut for Liverpool, also keep improving as a player and being involved in the first team a lot more and get more experience as the season goes on.”
Max: We’ve seen Rodgers give deserving young players their debuts for the club, how do you feel he is as a manager? Do you speak to him often?
Ojo: “Yeah, he’s giving me good feedback. To keep my head down, keep improving, keep working hard and that I will get my opportunity. Hopefully that comes soon.”
Max: You were on the bench against Burnley during the festive period, how did that feel being amongst the Liverpool players?
Ojo: “It was a good feeling, it was the first time on the bench. Unfortunately I couldn’t come on because we were drawing at the time so it was a difficult situation, but it was a good step forward being on the bench. I think the next game I was on the bench, so it was nice and hopefully I can make my debut this season.”
Max: Do you have any ‘long-term’ plans at Liverpool?
Ojo: “The main one is just to be playing for Liverpool FC. To be a first team player, and playing every week – that’s the main aim. Just keep improving and keep on getting better.”
Max: When training, were there any first team players which would have a chat with you etc?
Ojo: “Yeah! I’ve had loads of chats with some of the senior players like Mamadou Sakho, Stevie, Jordan Henderson – all the senior players spoke to me a lot, giving me advice on what I can do better.”
Max: You signed for Liverpool at just the age of 14, to sign for a club like that must have been an unbelievably feeling?
Ojo: “Obviously it was an amazing feeling that a club like Liverpool would be interested to me. It was a straight forward decision to be honest, Liverpool is a great club. At the time, Dalglish was the manager, it was going in the right direction in terms of giving youth the opportunity. It was a straight forward decision.”
Max: Who would you say you link up well the most in the U21?
Ojo: “Probably it’ll be Jerome Sinclair, if I’m playing on the wing most of my assists are to him. We just have a connection, he’s one of my closest friends – we have a good relationship on the pitch.”
Max: So I take it playing as a winger is your preferred position?
Ojo: “Yeah, for England I play more as a number 10. But for Liverpool I play on the wing. Anywhere across the front three would be good for me, I wouldn’t say I have a fixed position.”
Max: How does it feel to play for England?
Ojo: “It’s an amazing feeling. I made my England debut when I was 14, it was a proud moment. From that moment on, every game has been a proud moment and hopefully I can keep progressing through different age groups, up to the senior team.”
