Spanish newspaper El Confidencial claim Liverpool are the only club, apart from Athletic and Real, who have been interested in the situation of Real Madird midfielder Illarramendi. They claim that the Reds intend to bid on him next summer. They say Liverpool may not offer the full 24 million for the Spanish man, but they could offer something nearby that amount.
Asier Illarramendi Andonegi arrived too Real Madrid on 12th of July 2013, signing a six year contract for a fee of €32.2 million – becoming the most expensive Spanish player. Xabi Alonso and Isco were previously the most expensive. The 24 year old, who turns 25 next month, has only made four starts for Real Madrid in La Liga. A big difference when he was a Spanish U21 ‘megastar’ for Real Sociedad, starting 32 games in the 2012/2013 season.
He has represented his country at all levels of international youth football and was one of the main players which decided the victory in the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
The likes of Toni Kroos and Modric have started ahead of the midfielder, and with Silva arriving to the Spanish club, it’s now going to be even more unlikely for him to start games.
With Gerrard leaving to the MLS in a few months, and reports coming out that Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva will be leaving in the summer, the Reds have to sign a midfielder in the summer. Could Illarramendi be the perfect choice?
Athetlic Bilbao have been linked with him, and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Athletico have made an offer for him.
“It is true he has had an offer from Athletic, but the player is comfortable here, he is happy and he likes to stay here and we are happy with it. The few minutes he has played he has always done well.”
– Ancelotti
Arsenal have also been linked with Asier. With the possibility of him moving increasing, would you like him in your team?
