Could Xherdan Shaqiri be the first name to add to Liverpool?
Reported earlier today, a three team race is going on for highly rated Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri. Making a mere 9 appearances so far he is desperate to leave Bayern. Liverpool, Juventus, and most recently Inter have entered the race for the winger and it’s hotly tipped that Liverpool will seal the deal. With Sky Italia claiming that Liverpool have made a bid for the Swiss star, also claiming that Shaqiri would not reject the Reds. Bayern have no interest in loaning the player out, nor does Shaqiri want to be. Liverpool are currently the only team to offer a permanent switch with Juventus wanting a loan and a forced buy option after he makes a set number of appearances. It is believed that he is available for a mere 15 million euros, which would make the Lallana deal look even more of a joke. Shaqiri was very interested in moving to Liverpool before and during the World Cup but unfortunately Liverpool chose to pursue other more expensive and ridiculous options.
Fabrizio Romano, who’s a journalist at Sky Sports, claims Bayern Munich want 15 million Euros and that Liverpool have started talks for a permanent deal.
#Shaqiri: #Bayern want 15M€. Now #Inter made a bid 6 months loan + buy clause. #LFC Liverpool just started talks for permanent deal, no bid.

Shaqiri has only made three starts out of a possible 17 for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga this season, which is nowhere near enough with the quality he has. In that time, he’s scored one and assisted two. Not too bad. Last season saw him score six and assist two times in 799 minutes – an average off a goal or an assist every 100 minutes. As mentioned earlier the likes of Inter and Manchester United are also keen on him, with SkyBet claiming Juventus are favourites with odds 4/7 – Liverpool are a close second, being 4/1. (Inter 5/1 and United 8/1).
Kubilay Turkyilmaz, who made 62 appearances for Switzerland (scoring 34 goals), claimed a move to Juventus would be a ‘disaster’.
He told Swiss Newspaper Blick: “England would suit Shaq more. They are less obsessed with tactics there, but a move to Liverpool right now could not be more unsuitable. Not only because Serie A is the weakest of all the big leagues, but above all because they play so tactically there. When I look at the clubs who are interested in Xherdan, there are clear preferences for me and Juventus would be a disaster.”

It now appears that the club’s “transfer committee” have their heads on straight and are going back in for the right players. Shaqiri could easily provide goals, assists, and creativity to a lackluster Liverpool squad who’ve only recently put in their best performance of the season with a 4-1 win over Swansea.
It’s far too soon to say Rodgers’ has turned a corner with his Liverpool squad but it looks promising after a fantastic team selection and solid tactics that ensured a dominant victory before the new year. It is believed that Liverpool are also looking at Radja Nainggolan and Fabien Delph this window to bolster their midfield and goalkeeper Mattia Perin who has recently stated he has no intentions of leaving this month.
