Liverpool have confirmed the singing of Burnley forward Danny Ings. After months of rumours, he has finally signed for the Merseyside team. He reportedly rejected Tottenham, after they bid £12m for him. A huge amount.
The striker enjoyed a good first season in the Premier League, scoring 11 goals in 35 games. With a conversion rate of 11.2% (11 goals out of 98 shots). He’s also made 35 key passes in the Premier League this season, an average of one a game.
Liverpool have agreed a compensation ‘package’ fee, due to Danny Ings’ age (As he’s under 24). This will likely be £3m-£5m.
I’m always a big fan of former Conference players coming into the Premier League, and Danny Ings is the same after spending time with Dorchester Town – where he played in the Conference South (The sixth tier of football). His other two teams have been with Bournemouth and Burnley. He’s made over 120 appearances for the Clarets, a marvellous achievement for a 22 year old. He’s also an international player, playing for the Under 21s nine times – scoring four.
A Burnley fan wrote a piece on Danny Ings and how he would fit in at Liverpool here. Here’s a quote from that piece.
It’s fair to say Danny Ings has had to work hard to get where he is and as anyone who knows him will tell you, that’s not something which will stop any time soon.
