Sergi Canos made an instant impact for Brentford on his home debut whilst Ryan Kent also impressed for Coventry City on his full debut. Danny Ward and Ryan McLaughlin were part of an Aberdeen side who made it eight wins from eight to go top of the SPL. Sheyi Ojo and Lloyd Jones were both part of teams who also picked up a positive result this weekend. There was frustration for Lawrence Vigouroux and Jordan Williams, whilst Harry Wilson and Joe Maguire were unused substitutes for their sides. Samed Yesil and Taiwo Awoniyi both didn’t feature for their loan sides this week whilst Allan was injured whilst playing for SJK.
Canos claimed his first assist on his home debut for Brentford as they recovered from 1-0 down to beat Preston 2-1. The Spanish winger came on in the 61st minute of the game and just 29 seconds later, his run and cross provided Lasse Vibe with the goal to get Brentford back into the game. His hectic cameo at Griffin Park continued when he was booked for a foul on Greg Cunningham. He also created one other chance in the victory.
Also in the Championship, and Ojo had a quiet game for Wolves as they drew 0-0 at home to league leaders Brighton. After starting the game, the England U19 winger played 68 minutes before he was replaced by Nathan Byrne.
Ward again featured for Aberdeen as they continued their 100% start to the season with a 3-1 win at Hearts. Although he conceded just his third goal of the season, the Dons moved five points clear at the top of the table. The Wales international did pick up a booking for a foul of Juanma early in the second half. McLaughlin also featured in the win. He came on as a 92nd minute substitute for goalscorer Niall McGinn.
Kent made his first start and played the full 90 minutes as Coventry beat Chesterfield 1-0 to move to fourth in League One. Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Kent was the star man for the Sky Blues. The England U20 winger created five chances in the game, and earned many plaudits from fans.
Staying in League One, Williams and Vigouroux played 90 minutes for Swindon Town, but couldn’t prevent them from suffering back-to-back defeats. The Robins suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to league leaders Burton Albion, and in doing so dropped to tenth.
Also, Jones featured for Blackpool as they picked up a point against Barnsley. Although the defender was booked in the 15th minute for a foul on Sam Winnall, he did have a chance to win it late on. Even with a draw, Blackpool drop to the foot of the League One table.
Crewe Alexandra were the team that moved off the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win at Shrewsbury. Wilson was an unused substitute in the game, and will be hoping to fire his team out of the relegation zone in the coming weeks. Another unused susbtitute was Maguire, who is still waiting for his league debut as the O’s drew 1-1 at home to Wycombe.
In Europe, and Yesil also didn’t feature for his loan side this week. The Turkish striker didn’t play for FC Luzern as they beat Neuchatel Xamax 4-2 in the Swiss Domestic Cup. Luzern do have a league game on Wednesday so he may feature in that tie. Summer signing Awoniyi also didn’t play for his loan side FSV Frankfurt as they beat MSV Duisburg 1-0 in Bundesliga 2. Finally, Allan played just eight minutes for his loan side SJK as they beat KTP 3-1 in the Finnish Premier League on Sunday. Although the Brazilian started the game, he picked up an injury and is a doubt for their game on Wednesday.
