Liverpool are expected to complete the signing of USA starlet Brooks Lennon, days after reportedly signing Barcelona starlet Bobby Adekanye. Lennon, 17, has played for the Reds’ Under-16s and Under-17s side as part of a trial, but currently plays for Real Salt Lake. According to Goal, Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Lennon on a permanent basis ‘in the coming days’, after receiving Irish citizenship, making him eligible for playing in England’s top flight.
Lennon netted 31 goals last season, a remarkable figure. He was lineked with the Reds last year, however there were a couple of reports claiming that he didn’t come to Anfield due to work permit issues.
Lennon has trained with Aston Villa and Sporting Lisbon in the past, but first featured for Liverpool in April 2013, but his issues with a work permit prevented him from signing on, he was then invited back for another trial nine months later.
After impressing when on trial in January 2014, the American forward was offered a contract and is set to feature for Neil Critchley’s Under-18s side this seasom. Lennon will become the third American youngster to sign for Liverpool in recent years, after Villyan Bijev and Marc Pelosi, but both of those players have been released from the club.
