Liverpool U18s Ease To Newcastle United Win

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored twice as Liverpool U18s made it two wins from three games with a 4-1 victory at home to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon. Adam Phillips followed up his goal in the mini Merseyside derby with an excellent free kick in the tenth minute to give Liverpool the lead. Captain Alexander-Arnold then capitalised on a mistake from Newcastle goalkeeper Nathan Harker to double the Reds’ lead midway through the first half.

The visitors grew back into the game and ended the first half strongly. Owen Gallacher went close before Lewis Suddick fired Newcastle back into the game as he made it 2-1. However, Alexander-Arnold restored Neil Critchley’s side two-goal advantage just after the interval. substitute Kris Owens scored his first league goal of the season to round off the scoring for the Reds.

After the game, Liverpool manager Critchley was happy with his side’s performance, but hinted some frustration that they it only ended 4-1. He also was full of praise for the goalscorers and was impressed that it’s not just the strikers scoring the goals.

He told liverpoolfc.com: “We played really well and I was delighted with the boys. We played some great football and we could have scored a lot more goals. We hit the bar a couple of times and missed some great chances. Adam scored a fantastic goal direct from a free-kick and it was nice to see Trent get a couple because he is capable of scoring goals from midfield.”

The result sees Liverpool stay in 7th in the Under 18 Premier League table, whilst Newcastle stay bottom after suffering their fifth defeat in seven matches.
