ESPN today have reported that Arsenal have approached Liverpool for Raheem Sterling, with the possibility of Gibbs and Walcott in a swap deal. There have been various reports linking Sterling to Arsenal, and after his interview with the BBC, it seemed like he wanted a move to London.
Theo Walcott had an excellent last game of the season, scoring three goals in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over West Bromwich Albion. He was also a pivotal player in Arsenal’s FA Cup Final against Aston Villa, scoring the opener. The winger has had a long journey with injuries, and hasn’t played over 80 minutes in a game yet. He’s only starting 4 times in the Premier League this season, scoring 5 goals and earning one Man of the Match award.
Walcott is a Liverpool fan, and gave an interview with Liverpool about supporting the club. He talked about that legendary night in Istanbul:
“When Liverpool won the Champions League, I went mad. I was shouting so loud I think I woke up the entire village where I live!”
With Moreno this season putting in average performances, Kieran Gibbs could be a good option for Liverpool. Gibbs began his senior career with Arsenal, and has been there ever since. He’s played for England 7 times, and 111 times for Arsenal, scoring his first goal for the Gunners in the Champions League this seasona against Anderlecht.
Nacho Monreal has looked like he’s ahead of the pecking order over Gibbs currently, so could Liverpool take advantage of that? We’ll have to wait and see.
In other news, Liverpool are also closing in on Milner and Ings, with a verbal agreement agreed for both. Sky Sports today have also claimed that Brendan Rodgers’ job is safe, after Klopp ruled himself out after saying he’s taking a break.
