Rodgers: The Kop Klopp?

If you’ve been living under a bridge this season, I envy you and would happily trade places. But if you’re one of the many unfortunate souls who support Liverpool and have been watching the weekly atrocity occurring at the club, I sympathize with you. Brendan Rodgers has gone from untouchable to indefensible in less than a few short months. He’s made an unbearable amount of mistakes in a short timeframe; from selling Suarez, splurging an entire 90mil on Lovren, Lambert, Lallana, Balotelli and Markovic who have been extremely unsuccessful signings, his inability to shift out unwanted players, and ignoring his extremely weak defense are only just a few massive mistakes he made in the summer alone. I’ve criticized Rodgers plenty in the past, and rightfully so, but many a time has he proven me wrong. But unfortunately this time around I’m the one stuck saying ‘I told you so’. But let’s not turn this into a discussion about what could’ve been done and focus on what needs to be done.

Should Rodgers be sacked, and could we bag Klopp with his recent downturn at Dortmund?

The answer to both questions is a resounding ‘absolutely not’. Comparing the two is daft and Klopp is far more superior to Rodgers in every aspect. Dortmund’s position in the league doesn’t reflect their performances whatsoever and they’ve been extremely unlucky this season. Klopp would not leave Dortmund unless sacked but both the board and the clubs enormous fan base have been backing Klopp. Every match their fans go mental and sing Klopp’s name even in their current state and some have even reached out to Liverpool fans and encouraged us to do the same. That is advice I believe we all need to listen to. Liverpool fans love to talk about themselves being the best fans in the world and act as if we generate world-class atmospheres home and away on a weekly basis regardless of results but that is simply not true. At the moment we aren’t even the best fan base in the England, much less the world. Last season Rodgers’ name was sung weekly, flares were set off, banners were hung at training, we instilled complete belief in our team and there were games I firmly believe our influence won us points all because we were on course to win the Prem. But this season our fan base is borderline nonexistent. Worse than United under Moyes, which is absolutely atrocious and we should all be ashamed. Rodgers is the man that saved our club (with help from King Kenny and Steve Clarke who laid a stable foundation) and should be given far, far more respect. A bad transfer window and a bad lot of results quivers in comparison to what this man has done for our club and we should give him more than enough time to correct his mistakes.

Rodgers and the team need us more than ever to be the fans we claim to be. Against Crystal Palace our entire team left the bus with their heads hanging and entered it in an even lower state. We need to give them a reason to enter every stadium believing they can beat anyone just like we did last season. We need to take a page out of the Dortmund book and go absolutely mental every match. Prove to the team and Rodgers that we believe in them to turn things around. January isn’t far away but for now we need to make do. I have faith in Rodgers to turn this team around, he managed to correct Roy and Kenny’s mistakes, I believe he can correct his own; and the Kop needs to prove we have faith in him to do so.
