Top five moments of Arsenal v Liverpool… in GIFs

Arsenal v Liverpool was as much an advert for the drama and high emotion of the Premier League as it was an advert for the stereotypes that have become synonymous with the two teams; Arsenal the underwhelming perennial underachievers and Liverpool looking every bit as frail in defence as they were ferocious in attack.

This made for a match filled with incredible highlights which the team at @LiverpoolGifs were able to capture for all your #content consuming delight. Starting from this week we’re hopefully going to contribute our voice to our friends on @LFCFansCorner and sift through the highlights and pick out our favourite moments from the match. So without further ado…

1. Mignolet’s save.

Rewind to the beginning of the 2013/2014 season. Opening day vs Stoke. Liverpool 1-0 up. Final minute, we concede a penalty andddddd being Liverpool, all of us fans are immediately shrouded by resignation. And who steps up and saves the day? Mignolet. This penalty wasn’t as dramatic but it was a nice reminder that Mignolet isn’t all bad. He can do good things. We don’t have to always hate him. We can find it in our hearts to show him appreciation when he does good things.

2. Lallana’s goal.

Everyone had an opinion on Wijnaldum and Lallana starting as midfielders. Both were quickly labelled as not being comfortable in deeper midfield roles…after barely 45 minutes of competitive football. So do you know what they did? They decided to prove the naysayers wrong in one slick slick slick move. They turned doubters into believers. Long may it continue.

3. Coutinho’s 2nd.

What. A. Move. 27 passes. Slick interplay. CBs composed and passing vertically through the lines. Lallana with an audacious drag back pass which elicited moans of delight from even the Arsenal faithful. Clyne actually putting in a threatening cross for what seems like the first time in his life. Coutinho finishing so emphatically that even Gary Neville was moaning in the commentary box. Jurgen’s tricky reds are back in business.

4. Coutinho’s Screamer

No words needed.

5. Mane’s goal.

Shortly after this went in someone said “Imagine David Attenborough was commentating for that goal?”.

*Attenborough voice*

The Majestic Mané gallops away from his hapless predators, breaking through their ranks with such incredible grace and poise, his agile limbs moving like a blur, confounding the poor defenders to eternal misery as they fail to even come close to wresting the ball from his control. And with the speed of a scorpion sting, he savagely cuts inside, snapping ankles and ruining careers (before they’d even truly begun) and dispatches the most elegantly sumptuous finish flying into the top corner, while seemingly off balance…with his weaker foot. The end.
