Just to set the scene, start of June, Brendan Rodgers had talks with Tom Werner, chairman of Fenway Sports Group and Mike Gordon, president of Fenway Sports Group, to review the season that just gone, which saw Liverpool finish sixth in the league, knocked out at the group stages of the Champions League, failure in the semi final in a dismal performance and a poor end of season which on the final game of the season, and Steven Gerrard’s final match for Liverpool FC, saw us getting smashed at the Britannia Stadium, by Stoke City 6-1. The talks ended with the message that positive talks were held and that comprehensive plan for improvements were drawn up and that the group will move forward together.
My question to the statements they made is if this is all true, why is it we have had no statements from the owners or the manager that they have allegedly backed? We have made to date, 4 signings, I accept not marquee signings that fans want, but looking at James Milner in particular we allegedly fought off Arsenal for his services, Manchester City offered him an improved contract, yet he choose Liverpool, surely this is the type of story the owners and Rodgers would be jumping all over as a public relations exercise with fans? We are building a squad, we have a proven English international who wanted to join us etc? So where is this uniformed march forward as a group together?
One of my followers pointed out that the transfer window does not officially open till July 1st, which I do accept, I just feel with the current predicament of the managerial level of Liverpool with the unrest of Mike Marsh and Colin Pascoe being released, then as some as any positive news became available such as new signings, then they needed to make the most of it.
Maybe the reason why it is quiet is that a final decision on the manager had yet to be made? Maybe also Fenway Sports Group are trying to sell their interest In the club? There has been some rumours circulating about this. I have to say I found it very strange that the owners have made no statement thanking Steven Gerrard for his fantastic service to the club, and when the season ended and said goodbye to staff was all very subdued. John W Henry, who is the main front man of the group, has not made any public statements about Liverpool FC since December 2014, as I said, synonymous by their absence, all very strange.
