Chelsea vs Tottenham – Tottenham Player Ratings

Despite a 3-0 defeat at Chelsea, who are currently unbeaten at the top of the league, I feel that as a whole Tottenham played well. Nobody really expected a victory – however a very good performance at home to Everton gave Spurs fans the tiniest bit of hope; the type that could kill a man. There were a few mistakes made by certain players which cost us the game, with 3-0 looking very harsh on a newly found Tottenham.

Player ratings:

Hugo Lloris – 5

He made a few smart saves however was largely at fault for Chelsea’s seconds goal whilst being beaten at his near post for their second – albeit by Hazard.

Vlad Chiriches – 6

A 6 maybe a little generous, but I didn’t expect much from Chiriches at all. He deserved his place in the team after his best performance of the season against Everton however it probably wasn’t the best decision to play him against Hazard. He did okay – but he did allow Hazard to show how good he really is.

Federicio Fazio – 8

No player made more tackles than Fazio, with six. He also made the most interceptions for Tottenham, 6 clearances and had a pass success rate of 90%. He showed his experience within the game and should have cemented his place in the Premier League starting XI.

Jan Vertonghen – 5

Vertonghen still hasn’t shown his true class this season, with quite weak performances from the Belgian centre-half. He was shrugged off the ball for Chelsea’s third goal and never really had a foot hold in the game.

Ben Davies – 6

Defensively, Davies didn’t have too much to do as a lot of the play went through Hazard on the other flank – however what he did do he didn’t do superbly. His crosses last night got him an extra mark, but if you put balls in the box you need Soldado playing. But there is no denial of his talent.

Aaron Lennon – 6

He started very brightly and contributed to Tottenhams very good initial 15 minutes. He tracked back and helped Chiriches but it wasn’t his finest performance.

Nabil Benteleb – 8

Despite his youth and inexperience – he held his own against Chelsea. Benteleb still has some lessons to learn from the likes of Fabregas and Matic but the young midfielder didn’t look too out of place in the middle of the park. Benteleb made the most passes on the day with 87, 32 more than Fabregas. Spurs had over 60% of the possession, largely due to this man.

Ryan Mason – 7

In a night where our youth shone through, Mason had yet again another decent performance. It wasn’t his best, and he clearly needs to improve – however I’m very pleased with his progress and I can’t wait for Poch to improve him into the player that he can be.

Christian Eriksen – 6

We didn’t see much of Eriksen on the night. He was marked very well and given little time on the ball. He did however manage to create a few half chances and work the ball reasonably well. He still needs to improve.

Erik Lamela – 3

He was slow, kept losing the ball in truth did very little in the game. He did however track back more than normal and it was clear that Poch wanted him to work harder, which he did but with no attacking threat. I’m always the one saying to give Lamela more time to adjust, but that isn’t a game where you want an adjusting player playing. I was very disappointed.

Harry Kane – 8

Again Harry Kane was one of Tottenham’s best players. He was very direct and always looked to move the ball forward, creating lots of problems for Chelsea’s experienced defence. Hitting the bar and running 40 yards to win a free-kick 25 yards out were among his highlights. He needs to improve his finishing slightly – which proved to be the difference in attackers last night. However overall, another very impressive performance.

Subs:

Chadli (58′) – 5

He had a 1 on 1 with Courtois which he lost (at the second attempt) and was a part of a few good passing moves but didn’t really change the way the game was played.

Paulinho (58′) – 4

Again did very little but is always a threat in the box from a corner. The former Chelsea target didn’t impress yet again. Maybe he’s still tired?

Soldado (75′) – ?

I wasn’t watching intently by this point in the game – but I didn’t even realise Soldado was on the pitch… So who knows what his rating should be? Certainly not me.
