Tottenham vs Burnley: Spurs’ player ratings

Player ratings –

After 3 wins in 3 Tottenhams player’s confidence must have been sky high however a poor home form would probably have put a doubt in their mind in the running up to the Burnley game. Sean Dyche believes Burnley went into the game as underdogs – but should be taken more seriously than they previously were. After their die-hard performance at The Lane I think it is fair to say they should be. They caused lots of problems and proved that they have special talents – with a Barnes wonder goal and Ings getting himself in some great positions. 2-1 was probably the right result, but it could easily have been 5-4.

Now for the players ratings –

Hugo Lloris – 7

He didn’t have an unreal amount to do, making 5 saves. but he thwarted a few decent chances and produced a few skills. His distribution still lets him down however, so he loses a mark.

Kyle Walker – 7

We have to remember that Walker has just come back from a 9 month absence, and going forward he created a brand new dynamic. Us as Spurs fans have been asking for us to play with width for some time now as Poch seems to like playing with inverted wingers, and Walker gives us exactly that. Hopefully he can stay fit as we have definitely found our best defensive 4.

Federicio Fazio – 7

He again looked very composed at the back and has formed a great partnership with Jan Vertonghen. His aerial presence in both boxes is duly noted and is a player that we have been missing for a few seasons, especially with a lot of teams now playing with a ‘target man’. He proved in this game how consistent he can be.

Jan Vertonghen – 5

Verts was reasonably quiet yesterday, which is always good for a centre back I guess. He got caught out s few times, but you have to expect that when someone as quick as Ings is playing. I’ve seen him play better though.

Ben Davies – 6

I would have given him a 7 but getting a yellow card for a very late challenge in the first few minutes is just silly. He was on a tight rope from then on and it restricted him for the rest of the game which was shame.

Ryan Mason – 7

He didn’t look like he was doing amazingly, but he gave us an extra option up top when he bombed on infront of Bentaleb. Despite only playing for the first 43 minutes, no player made more tackles than Ryan Mason (5) It was clear how influential he is once he got taken off. I hope he isn’t out for too long.

Nabil Bentaleb – 7

Another very confident, mature performance from him however in the last 10 minutes he couldn’t get hold of the ball and probably misplaced as many passes in that amount of time than what he has all season. It was a shame as it put a damper on what was another very good game by the young Algerian.

Erik Lamela – 9

His best performance in a long time; He made some very skilful and meaningful runs, no player had more successful dribbles than Erik Lamela yesterday, with three. He also created several chances and of course scored another wonder goal. If he was consistent he would truly be a different class. I hope he can build on this now.

Christian Eriksen – 8

He ran the show again from midfield, creating more chances (8) than the whole of the Burnley team combined (7). Our Danish magician shone again and just keep getting better and better.

Nacer Chadli – 6

He was quiet until the 70th minute and struggled to get into the game, but once he did he had a few decent shots but couldn’t quite bury one. I do really like the forward midfield trio of Lamela, Chadli and Eriksen however, but they have to be played in the right game.

Harry Kane – 7

The man just can’t stop scoring. But he missed too many chances yesterday in my opinion. He’s better in the number 10 role but is the best number 9 we have at the minute. Which is a shame as someone ahead of him would make him look even better than what he is. He’s come on leaps and bounds however and just keeps improving.

Subs

Stambouli (43) – 6

He wasn’t amazing but he did the job. He just simply wasn’t the player we needed ans it was unfortunate that he come on in such bad circumstances. His natural positioning allowed them to press and it put us in a bit of hot water, but you can’t really blame him for that.

Soldado (84) – 5

He wasn’t really given the time to do anything and in truth he did exactly that. Nothing.

Rose (90+3) – ?

Is it even worth a rating? He did his job… I guess.

Thank you for reading and have a great Christmas!
