Just 3 days after Spurs pushed for a place in the final of The Capital One Cup the Lilywhites faced Pulis’ West Brom who had conceded just one goal in four games with a run lasting 280 minutes. A weary Spurs and an unbreakable Pulis side had draw written all over it – but that wasn’t the case.
Lloris (C): 8.5
Lloris had a spectacular performance, and against a better strike force he would have got a 9 or 10, but due to West Brom not having any spectacular strikers, I feel like he did his job well against an under-performing attack.
Walker: 7
The right-back played well but he didn’t do spectacularly. He still hasn’t quite got into full flow since returning from injury but he did get into a good position to win the penalty, so that’s got him an extra point.
Fazio: 7
Not his best game but not his worst. In truth he didn’t have an unbelievable amount to do, but he showed off his strength and power again against Anichebe and Berahino.
Vertonghen: 7
Another player that didn’t need to do too much, but what he did he did well. We kept a clean sheet, so it couldn’t have been too bad.
Rose: 8
Probably our best defender today and he just carries on improving. He made a spectacular goal-saving tackle 5 yards out and flourished in both his attacking and defensive work today.
Paulinho: ?
Paulinho literally had a game of two halves – in the first time he was dispossessed 6 times and in truth looked like he had no idea what was going on. In the second half however he improved dramatically making 4 tackles, 2 interceptions & 2 clearances in second; he was not dispossessed once in the second and also completed 93.7% of his 79 passes.
First half: 3 Second half: 7.5
Mason: 6.5
He was effectively playing for 2 men in the first half and he proved just how much we missed him when he was out injured. He did however miss-place a few easy passes however his positioning and work-rate mean that he will most probably feature in the first XI against Arsenal.
Eriksen: 9
The Danish dynamite that makes Ozil look sh*te had another incredible game today. He scored another truly terrific free-kick and set the tempo of the game. He constantly wanted the ball and took control of the game. A world class performance.
Dembele: 8
He wasn’t quite as good as he was in the Semi-Final however he won the free-kick after a wonderful run at West Broms defence and made a quality pass and blocked off the defender for Kane’s first goal. He really is starting to prove his worth and is giving Poch a headache in terms of team selection.
Lamela: 6/7
He didn’t have an amazing game going forward, but he worked hard defensively and won the ball back more times than I can remember in total. I’m still not sure about him, but he’s slowly getting better.
Kane: 9
Kane had another great game and really is fighting for an England place and place in Team of the Year. His dribbling, shots, and work-rate are second to none and his two goals gave us a very convincing win.
